Varonis is proud to be named a Leader in the GigaOm Radar for Data Security Platforms for the second year in a row. As data volumes grow, environments become more complex, and AI introduces data risk, enterprises increasingly turn to Data Security Platforms.
Varonis was named a Leader in Data Security Platform, receiving high marks across categories in the report, including perfect scores for user behavior analytics, access security, integrations, service integrations, support, and ease of management. GigaOm also recognized Varonis for continued innovation in AI and automation.
Varonis was classified as an Outperformer, given its continued leadership in the space. It continues to develop its platform, including its move to SaaS over recent years. Continued innovation is seen in its use of AI and automation to continually improve accuracy and lower operations costs.

The rise of the Data Security Platform
Most data security strategies are fragmented, with core capabilities such as data loss prevention, access governance, and threat detection distributed across various tools. As the GigaOm report notes, the increase in data volumes and the growing complexity of data environments have made this disparate approach untenable.
Organizations have traditionally tackled this issue [data security] via “point” solutions — individual applications or solutions — for data loss prevention (DLP), governance, data protection, encryption, and threat detection. However, as data volumes and complexity continue to grow, so does the complexity of managing multiple solutions, further increasing costs and risks to a business’s data assets.

GigaOm notes that DSPs have emerged to address the challenge of securing large amounts of data in complex environments. These platforms combine disparate capabilities into a single solution to help organizations streamline and scale data security.
Varonis, a leading Data Security Platform
GigaOm’s report recognizes Varonis as a Leader in DSP with a cloud-native SaaS platform that scales to safeguard large volumes of data in complex data ecosystems.
“Varonis is a vendor with a long-established and comprehensive data security platform. It offers its customers a cloud-native SaaS platform that protects data in the largest and most complex data ecosystems. Its solutions are designed to deliver fast, automated security outcomes for customers,” Stringfellow said.
Varonis received high scores in every category, with perfect scores in user behavior analytics, access security, integrations, service integrations, support, and ease of management. The report details Varonis’ strengths in service integrations, behavior analytics, and access security:
- Service integrations: Varonis offers very broad coverage of protected repositories, providing protection to structured and unstructured datasets across on-premises and cloud environments, including file servers, NAS, SaaS, cloud object stores, identity platforms, databases, and cloud databases such as Snowflake. Customers can also build custom integrations where prebuilt coverage does not exist.
- Behavior analytics: With its comprehensive analytics capabilities, Varonis provides hundreds of expert-built threat models that automatically detect anomalies, alerting on things such as unusual file access activity, email send and receive actions, permissions changes, and geo-hopping. Its ML models are trained on anonymized and aggregated data, allowing them to learn from a wide range of attack patterns rather than just those experienced by a single customer. This protection is further enhanced by Varonis’s Athena AI investigations capability, which can identify threats, perform an automated investigation, and trigger an appropriate response.
- Access security: Varonis provides data access reviews across multiple repository types to highlight where data is exposed organization-wide, publicly, externally, and in personal accounts. It can identify where data is overshared, both internally and externally, where it’s improperly stored, and where there is stale or orphaned data. Varonis applies to this information its automated remediation policies that can be customized and run continually to ensure data remains secure.
Continued innovation in AI and automation
The report also highlights Varonis for ongoing innovation in AI and automation, which is integrated into the unified DSP. This enables customers to scale their data and security teams to achieve security outcomes, even as data volumes grow.
- Athena AI: Athena AI is Varonis’ generative AI layer spanning the entire Varonis Data Security Platform. Athena AI allows customers to efficiently conduct investigations and analysis using natural language, helping users of all skill levels become proficient in security.
- Automated remediation: In complex environments, security teams can struggle to keep up with numerous configurations and permissions, increasing the risk of a data breach. Varonis’ automated remediation enhances security by automatically applying actions like removing stale users and blocking public access on S3 buckets.
